I’m originally from a Mennonite community in the glacial plains of central Ohio (although I was born in the lake country of Northern Ontario), and I completed my bachelor’s degree at Ohio State, where my main philosophical interests were metaphysics and moral philosophy. I also majored in Communications, and was particularly interested in how communicative practices shape our reality, an interest I’ve subsequently carried over into philosophy. Between finishing my bachelor’s degree and starting my PhD program, I worked in admissions and higher education marketing for five years.

I live in North Philadelphia, on the block depicted in the photo on the home page, with my wife Courtney and our three sons.
